afghanistan

Glasgow the Caring City has been working in Afghanistan since 2002 providing material support to communities as they grow and develop.

Our aim in Afghanistan is simply to complement the work of our partners as they conduct their day-to-day business.

In 2002 Glasgow the Caring City was able to send a 40ft container of blankets and medical equipment to the border regions between Aghanistan and Pakistan. The equipment was vital in the cold winter months and brough comfort and hope to those so remote from contact.

Our work more recently, has been in support of developments in Helmand Province. Helmand is the British controlled sector in the South of the Country where many Scots soldiers and civilian contractors operate.

During winter 2007 we were able to provide Hats, scarves, gloves and socks to children who were suffering the ill effects of a very cold winter.

In remote parts of the country, where medical attention is not readily available the common solution to problems such as frost-bite is to lop-off digits etc. so the provision on something as simple as a set of gloves and some socks can save a child from a life of missery.

Our work in Afghanistan, much like our work in Iraq is to complement our partners, therefore remaining low key
