Africa Christian Fellowship International operates several projects. Glasgow the Caring City in partnership with WER (World Emergency Relief) have supported several of these, principally the Daniel Hoover Village in Dixville, the School for the Deaf in Monrovia and the Buchanan Orphanage about 100m south along the coast.

The Hoover Village in Dixville, on the outskirts of Monrovia

The Hoover Village Orphanage cares for more than 350 orphans and poor children, including former child soldiers, and provides them with food, education and medical care. The school on site caters for 515 pupils (residents plus 165 from the local community).

This is a project in the heart of the community and is supported by local people who often volunteer their time and contribute food.

School for the Deaf, Monrovia

As a disability group in a developing country they an even poorer subset of the community. The school has 65 students, 44 of whom are resident since they are orphans. There are 7 teachers although retention is hard as other private schools can offer better salaries. What they do, they do well although the need is so great.

Buchanan Orphanage, Buchanan

Glasgow the Caring City has committed educational resources & WER has committed cash funding to rebuild this site. Like many schools it was totally destroyed during the civil fighting. There are 300 children in 4 age groups. Some of the classes are constructed but some teacher still occurs in the open air.
