Our History....

Glasgow the Caring City our History. Glasgow the Caring City, started in 1999 as a respond to need, especially the needs of the Kosovo Evacuees from the Balkan War. Soon the charity was on the road, and there after followed years of work in the Balkans and Eastern Europe. By 2003 we had expanded into Africa and the Middle East, and were delivering food aid into Bethlehem, and Fire Engines and Mobile Hospitals to Eastern Europe while at the same time building up our areas of work in Sub Saharan Africa. Such were the demands placed upon the charity, responding to need both overseas and here in Scotland that we had to expand our vision and develop the services we offered. The Sad event of 9/11 was the first of our big changes, and soon we were working in New York with the families and victims of the terror attack, and partnering US charities in their work overseas. From Hong Kong to New York the charity, offered Gifts In Kind assistance, development projects, and specialist assistance to those most in need, and the less well off in society. The Tsunami and the Pakistan Earthquake pushed our work to the extreme, and once again we had to re-develop to cope with the demands of those most at need in many corners of the globe. No longer were we just a small Scottish charity that were undertaking some pretty special projects, we were now major players, and with the introduction of our Projects Manager and the opening of the Hub we had a proper base to work from. From that base today we service projects in over 50 countries. We have responded to Katrina, Darfur (Sudan), Iraq, Afghanistan and every area of concern, where our worked can been called up. We also responded to the Stockline Disaster in Glasgow, and the Glasgow Airport Terror Attack. If Glasgow or the West of Scotland has a need, we are first to respond when called upon, and delighted to assist with our partners in the Fire and Rescue Service and the Police. Along the way of our journey as a charity, we have won several major humanitarian awards, built hospitals and schools and pulled off some miracles. Where we see need we respond, and where we discover suffering we care. Glasgow the Caring City International Aid and Development started as a short term response to need. Today in Malawi, South Africa, Cuba and many other corners of the globe, we make a difference to the lives of many children, and God Willing help to give them a future. Rev. Neil Galbraith Projects Director and Founder.
