South Lanarkshire international Aid

South Lanarkshire International Aid (SLIA) was born from a desire to make best use and extend the lifecycle of redundant and surplus schools equipment becoming available through the South Lanarkshire Council Schools Modernisation project.

Projects partners in SLIA include Glasgow the Caring City, South Lanarkshire Council and the various organisations who receive and benefit from our aid.

To date and in the first two years of SLIA we have been able to successfully source, ship and deploy educational equipment to the following countries:

South Africa

Pakistan

Liberia

Uganda

Sudan

Zambia

Malawi

A significant outcome of the achievement of SLIA has been the raised awareness of other local authorities, of the value of the redundant equipment generated through schools modernisations.

The specific aims of SLIA are:

To make best value of schools equipment, promoting education and the advancement of young people whenever possible

To consider the environment and diversion from landfill through the extension of life-cycle

To develop international development issue awareness amongst young people through education

To date SLIA has impacted upon the lives of over 20,000 children around the world and spread the message that South Lanarkshire cares.
